All students at Newton Moore SHS study languages in Years 7 and 8. Students are encouraged to continue their studies in Year 9 and 10 with the aim of eventually completing their selected language at a senior school level. Our language programs give students an opportunity to participate in a variety of excursions and overseas trips, as well as the opportunity to host students from other countries and participate in cultural activities.
Within the Japanese program, students will engage in not only language focussed lessons, but also the Japanese culture and history. Students will venture into the world of anime and manga, origami and Japanese cuisine, to name a few of the programmed activities.
The Indonesian language course allows students to not only learn the Indonesian language but also provide an opportunity for students to investigate Indonesia’s history, people, food and culture. Students will learn practical language they can use when visiting Indonesia.
Academy students have the opportunity to develop some basic Noongar language skills within the Living and Leading course. Students also study and learn about Aboriginal culture and history (past and present) while refining leadership skills.
